Sanford is listed in 1850 Macon Co, AL census.

On March 6, 1853, was buried with appropriate
honors by his lodge.

On June 5, 1851, he joined the Auburn Masonic Lodge No. 75.

On March 6, 1853, was buried with appropriate honors by
his lodge. Notice of his death, and a copy of his lodge's "Tribute of Respect and Resolutions" appeared on March 25, 1853, in the Southwestern
Baptist, published then in Montgomery, Alabama."

'A Glimpse of Thorntons Through the Centuries' by Walter W. Thornton,
mentions that:
"JONATHAN THORNTON, b. 1793 in Elbert Co., GA, married Martha B. McMaster,
b. 1803, a daughter of William McMaster, in the Abbeville District, S. C.
[near the Savannah River, about 20 miles south of Abbeville, S. C.]
SANFORD THORNTON, b. 1798 in Elbert Co., GA, married Martha's sister,
Susannah Townes McMaster, b. 1804."

"Columbia, S. C. Will Book 1815-1839, Vol. 2, p. 128, has receipts of
Jonathan Thornton for himself and wife, Martha, and acting as Attorney in
Fact, by authority of a duly registered Power of Attorney, for his brother
Sanford Thornton and wife Susannah T. Thornton nee McMaster for the sum of
$2087.60 each, equal shares in the estate of William McMaster [who died in
1824], under his will, witnessed by H. G. Walker and J. W. Prather."
